Esteemed applicant. The Parker family extends our sincere appreciation to you for taking the time to apply for this year’s award.
The Dr. Jeff Parker Memorial Scholarship is a $2500 award that is available to past players of the Calgary Cowboys Football Association. It is an award for an individual who has demonstrated merit and actions that are aligned with positive community involvement and striving for personal excellence.
Since the award was established in 2016, we have previously stipulated that this award should be used toward the successful applicant’s academic pursuits. However, this year we have decided to take a different approach. Still having a focus on learning, we have expanded our recipient scope to encompass both academic learning and learning from life experiences!
Learning and growing are lifelong occurrences, we learn from many things, academics being one, but even more, from life experiences and especially life challenges! We appreciate that sometimes, our circumstances and experiences in life don’t always align with the goals we have set for ourselves. However, like football, sometimes we learn more about ourselves from the plays we didn’t execute well, and for some, those experiences inspire us to work harder or to take a different approach in working towards our future successes. There is tremendous value in improving our lives through learning from life’s challenges. They provide us with an opportunity to realize and grow our inner strengths. To be more resilient, and to be more compassionate to others. As much as success lays the foundation for more success (everyone loves a winning team), adversity provides opportunities to strengthen our character, improve our life and positively impact the lives of those around us.
This year, we want to hear your stories. For you to talk about your goals in life, and how your experiences have shaped who you are, in what ways your experiences have strengthened you, what your core values are and how you positively impact others. Additionally we want to hear about what you have learned from your involvement with the Calgary Cowboys Football community, especially in connection to how your experiences, character, and values have been reinforced by the Calgary Cowboys Football community. Please also highlight how the award will help you on your path as a leader in life.
